ApplicationSentry is an extremely easy-to-use utility that is constantly on guard, monitoring your applications for certain types of memory-related problems. ApplicationSentry provides a fast, easy, and non-technical way to improve the stability, efficiency, and performance of your computer.

A common reason for programs crashing are memory-related problems. Frequently, either a memory-leak bug or not enough memory being assigned to the application is responsible for these problems. The memory requirements of an application constantly vary as the application is being used, and effectively tracking a program's memory usage requires a dynamic approach.

The amount of memory used by your applications constantly fluctuates depending on the activities you are performing. The developer of a program is forced to make general statements about a program's memory requirements, but the actual amount of memory needed by a program is determined by how you are using the program. This frequently means that either the application doesn't have sufficient memory to operate properly or has more memory assigned to it than is necessary.

The consequences of having too little memory assigned to your applications are that they may either crash or suffer a performance slowdown. These crashes can lead to data loss and data corruption. Having more memory than necessary assigned to a program results in wasting your system's resources; it can even result in spending money on additional RAM that you don't really need!

By observing ApplicationSentry's display -- or using its Auto-Alert feature -- you have a quick, non-technical, and easy-to-understand way of determining which of your programs has a memory-leak bug and/or will benefit from adjusting the amount of memory that's assigned to the program.

ApplicationSentry:

Doesn't require launching a separate application.

Doesn't require any technical knowledge about your computer.

Doesn't require learning a bunch of keyboard commands.

Doesn't get in your way when using your computer.

ApplicationSentry:

Gives you the choice of a Thermometer Gauge or a text-based display.

Gives you the option of placing it anywhere you choose on your Desktop.

Gives you the option of hiding/showing its display with a click of the Mouse or with a keyboard shortcut.

Gives you an Auto-Alert low-memory warning option which works even when ApplicationSentry is not visible -- after all, it needs to live up to its name!

Gives you the option of setting the memory usage level that triggers an Auto-Alert.

Displays both the amount of RAM currently assigned to the active application and the amount of RAM being used by the active application.

Displays both the name of the active application and the percent of the memory assigned to it that's being used.

Displays the amount of RAM that is assigned to the active application but is not being used.

Eliminates the tedious and risky trial-and-error method of determining the proper memory allocation for your applications.

Automatically adjusts the size of both the text-based display and the graphic display to minimize the amount of Desktop space it uses.

Gives you a built-in Help system that describes the function of each button (they are really pretty self-descriptive, though) and provides built-in tips on using ApplicationSentry.

Gives you a quick visual prompt as to what is going on by dynamically updating the color of the display to reflect the amount of memory being used by your active application.

Works fine when you use Virtual Memory or RAM Doubler.

Has additional features which are described in the ReadMe file that's included with the program.

New In ApplicationSentry 1.1

When using the text-based display, the background color will automatically change for better readability.

ApplicationSentry will stay in the location that you haved placed it, even when an Auto-Alert occurs.

Since on some systems the Finder may often exceed its normal memory allocation by temporarily "borrowing" memory, ApplicationSentry's Auto-Alert feature is not active for the Finder (there is still a full set of memory information displayed for the Finder).
