Many times when your Mac crashes it's due to a problem with your machine handling its memory resources; also, many of these crashes come with a dialog box that presents a difficult-to-interpret error code. At least some memory-related problems are directly attributable to a bug in a specific program, while others may be due to a problem with your operating system, your hardware, or fragmented memory. Since your computer uses its memory resources in a dynamic way, effectively tracking its memory usage requires a dynamic approach.
The benefits of using SystemSentry include helping you determine which activities lead to memory-related problems, helping you increase the stability of your machine's configuration, helping you determine which programs have a bug which causes them to not return memory back to your computer when you quit them, letting you know which combination of programs you can safely run simultaneously on your computer, and showing you whether you really need to install more RAM.
SystemSentry is both a good
diagnostic tool that doesn't require any technical expertise on your
part and a method to alert you to impending trouble before a problem
develops. Besides, I think it's pretty cool to be able to dynamically
observe how a computer is using its memory resources!
SystemSentry:
Doesn't require launching a separate application .
Doesn't require any technical knowledge about your
computer.
Doesn't require learning a bunch of keyboard commands.
Doesn't get in your way when using your computer.
SystemSentry:
Gives you the choice of a Pie Gauge or a text-based
display.
Gives you the option of placing it anywhere you choose on your
Desktop.
Gives you the option of hiding/showing its display with a click of
the Mouse or with a keyboard shortcut.
Gives you an Auto-Alert option which works even when SystemSentry is
not visible -- after all, it needs to live up to its
name!
Gives you a built-in Help system that describes the function of each
button (they are really pretty self-descriptive, though) and built-in
tips on using SystemSentry.
Gives you a quick visual prompt as to what is going on by dynamically
updating the color of the display to reflect the amount of memory
being used on your system.
Automatically adjusts itself when you use Virtual Memory or RAM
Doubler.
Automatically adjusts itself when you change the amount of RAM
installed on your computer.
Has additional features which are described in the ReadMe file that
is included with SystemSentry.
New In Version 1.0.1
SystemSentry is now fully compatible with OS 9 (all versions) and includes updated documentation.
Requirements
A Macintosh computer with System 7.5.3 or later (including Systems 8, 8.1, 8.5, 8.5.1, 8.6, and 9.x) and a 68020 or later processor (including PowerMacs, iMacs, G3, G4, PowerBooks, and Performas).
While SystemSentry hasn't been tested with any System earlier than 7.5.3, I expect it will work fine going back to System 7.1.
SystemSentry works fine with both
Virtual Memory and RAM Doubler.
SystemSentry 1.0.1 includes a 30-day money back satisfaction guarantee and is only $19. To order the registered version of SystemSentry, click here: Order Registered Version
