It's A Whole New Way To Print And Archive Your Information
The Internet is without a doubt the world's greatest source of information. It provides the average Joe with access to pieces of information that he/she could only dream of finding in the olden days. Unfortunately, as many of you have already found out saving the information that you find in your Internet searches isn't a walk in the park. In fact, saving the information that you found on the Internet resembles a walk in a minefield. Saving the information that you found on the Internet requires you to either bookmark the page that had your information, save the page as HTML source code, or print the information. Each of the methods that I had just mentioned have their downfall. When you bookmark the information that you find you need to be online to retrieve it and once your online you have to hope that the servers up and that the page is still where it was when you made the bookmark. When downloading the source of the page you can only read the file in a web browser. Also, some sites that you may have gathered information from may use dynamically generated content so that the page you saved may not end up having the information that you expected it to have once the file is on your computer. The final method that I mentioned was to print the page of information that you found. In my mind printing a web page is the least ideal thing that you can do to record your information. When printing information off of the Internet you almost always end up printing stuff that you don't want wasting expensive printer ink/toner. Also, some web sites print its text on more than one page, meaning that a sentence can start on one page and resume on the top of your second piece of paper making reviewing/studying the information pure torture.
Enter WebPrint Plus:
In order to save the many Mac users out there from the printing/saving web information headaches that I described above Macintosh shareware developer Stephen Becker created a program that truly revolutionizes the way that you print and archive the information that you find on the web. Becker's program is called WebPrint Plus and is an application that resides in a small menu on your screen that allows you to print and save only the information that you want to save, alleviating the need to manually sort through irrelevant information. The WebPrint Plus program does this by creating something similar to the Macintosh clipboard. Saving or printing information with WebPrint Plus is very easy. To save the information that you want all that you have to do is select your text. Next, you move over to the WebPrint menu bar and click on the Add Selection to the Print Board button. If you prefer you can also set a key-combination with the WebPrint Plus program to print/save your text selection to the Print Board. Pressing the print the Print Board button prints the content of your Print Board. Clicking on the programs Print Selection button allows you to print multiple copies of your text. Because your only printing the information that you want your printer will perform much faster and you will enjoy saving money on ink because your printer will not print web banners and other colorful ink-consuming graphics. If you press, the programs copy the Print Board button WebPrint Plus will send the information from your Print Board to your Macs clipboard file. The Print Board is basically a Simple Text file that holds your information for later viewing or printing in an easy to read format that can be read by both Mac and PC computers. All of the selections that you send to the clipboard will be stamped with the date/time that you recorded the file (the user can also override the use of time/date stamps.) It will also include the title of the website and URL that you captured the information from should you wish to return to the website to collect more information at a later time. WebPrint Plus also allows you, the user to add their own notes to each Print Board file on-the-fly allowing you to use your own personal touch in your note-taking escapades.
Also, worth noting is WebPrint Plus' ability to work seamlessly with almost any other Macintosh program. This is a feature that I found particularly useful. The reason that I found this feature useful is because as a writer I often assemble a number of articles a day in a single document. When it comes time to review these articles I have the hardest time printing each of these stories on a separate piece of paper. To achieve this I have to copy each article to a different document and then print the file causing me to wasting valuable time. Since I've installed WebPrint Plus I've been able to print all of my articles in less than half of the time because I can simply highlight my text click print and of course repeat the process until I'm finished.
Conclusion:
WebPrint Plus is a great program for doing everything from printing the 76ers articles found on ESPN to doing serious research. Both new and returning college students should definitely purchase a copy of WebPrint Plus, as it will make your research sessions go by faster than you can imagine. In fact, anyone who uses the Internet for fun or work should add this program to their toolbox. It really adds a new level of convenience to using your Macintosh.
WebPrint Plus sells for just $29.95. A nominal fee considering the amount of time and printer supplies that the program will save you.

WEBPRINT PLUS 1.0
WebPrint Plus, by Stephen Becker (http://www.kagi.com/MacEase/), accomplishes something any good Shareware program should. It fills a very specific need, and does so quite nicely. If you're tired of copying and pasting various bits of text to get what you need, WebPrint may be your lifesaver. The best example of WebPrint's usefulness is with Netscape Navigator (or Explorer, for those who are so inclined). I, for example, often find bits of text on various Websites that I want to keep. The normal procedure is to highlight the text, copy it, and paste it into my word processor. Or, for larger selections, I do a view source and get the whole html page. Webprint, however, allows me to highlight the text and click one button from WebPrint's floating palette. The text is then saved to a file called the PrintBoard, where it can be retrieved and printed at leisure. You can also bypass the PrintBoard and print the selection directly.
WebPrint's flexibility offers several ways to use its features. There are three ways to save selections: save the text to the PrintBoard with a date and time stamp (handy for those who make many selections over a period of time), save the text without the date and time stamp, and save the text and, at the same time, print it. WebPrint also offers a quick print with the 'Print One Copy,' which will print without bringing up a dialog box (and without saving to the PrintBoard). The Print Selection button brings up the print dialog box to let you print multiple copies, or whatever. Additional options with WebPrint include viewing, printing, or deleting the entire contents of the PrintBoard.
I should add here that a web browser is not the only instance for using WebPrint. You can use it in just about any program that lets you highlight text. Maybe you're reading a lengthy Word document of sifting through a bunch of email. Use WebPrint to save your favorite lines or passages and give up the copy-paste routine we are all so tired of.
WebPrint's floating palettes offer some flexibility of their own. There is a compact-view palette and a full-view palette, both of which collapse down to a small floating icon for when you are not using it. (If you're wondering, I've found that I prefer the full-view palette. It's a little bigger, but it gives access to more options.) If you want to shut off all the palettes, you can de-select them in the Apple Menu.
WebPrint uses OneClick, which to be honest, I'm not too familiar with. But if you don't already have OneClick, WebPrint will install it for you. Nice and easy! You can download a fully functional version that lasts 21 days. If you like it, the cost is only $15, which is worth it if you find it at all useful (which I think you will). There is even a 30-day money back guarantee! WebPrint may not be the kind of program that everyone will flip for, but I think quite a number of you can put it to good use.
